Product Overview

Marble Powders are high-purity calcium carbonate fillers produced by the controlled crushing, grinding, and classification of white marble, a metamorphic rock formed by the recrystallisation of limestone under heat and pressure. The metamorphic process produces a coarser, more uniform crystal structure than sedimentary limestone, resulting in higher brightness, lower impurity content, and more consistent particle morphology than standard ground calcium carbonate from limestone quarries.

The primary quality parameters are brightness, calcium carbonate purity, particle size distribution, and oil absorption. Brightness is measured by reflectance spectrophotometry and expressed as the Ry value (ISO brightness) or Hunter L value. Premium white marble from the Mediterranean region, including deposits in Turkey, Greece, and Italy, consistently achieves Ry values of 92 to 96%, placing it among the brightest naturally occurring calcium carbonate fillers available commercially.

Marble powders are produced across a range of particle size distributions. Fine grades with a median particle size below 10 µm are used in paints, coatings, and paper coatings where smooth texture and high brightness are critical. Medium and coarse grades are used in construction products, adhesives, and sealants where filler loading and rheological modification are the primary objectives.

The chemical inertness of calcium carbonate makes marble powders compatible with alkyd, acrylic, and epoxy resin systems, as well as cementitious matrices. Their low oil absorption allows higher filler loadings without excessive viscosity increase. ROCC Global sources marble powders from established quarry operators in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Asia Pacific.

Applications and Performance

Marble powders are used as a premium mineral filler and extender across construction and industrial applications. In architectural paints and decorative coatings, fine grades provide high brightness and smooth texture, allowing formulators to reduce titanium dioxide loading whilst maintaining opacity and whiteness. In joint compounds, tile adhesives, and render systems, medium-grade marble powders contribute to workability, open time, and surface finish quality. In architectural concrete and precast cladding, marble powder is used as a filler aggregate to achieve consistent colour and texture in exposed surfaces, particularly in white cement-based mixes. In the plastics and rubber industries, marble powders serve as cost-effective extenders that improve dimensional stability and surface finish in moulded components. Their high purity and consistent particle size distribution also make them suitable for food-contact and pharmaceutical excipient applications, subject to appropriate grade selection and regulatory compliance.
